Innovative solutions encompass emerging technical interventions like direct air capture, mineralization, enhanced rock weathering, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage, blue carbon approaches, sustainable fuels, and projects under national or international certification schemes.
Many novel interventions to both avoid and remove CO2 emissions do not currently feature prominently in the voluntary carbon market, but are nevertheless important solutions that have the potential to grow in scale as technology advances, capital is deployed, and proof of concept is established.
Such innovative solutions include emerging technical removals interventions, from direct air capture (DAC) to mineralisation and enhanced rock weathering (ERW) to bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) as well as new approaches to blue carbon, such as seagrass management and ocean alkalinity enhancement, sustainable fuels, and projects supported by national or international certification schemes.
While forming a small part of our overall portfolio, innovation projects are assessed for their local impact and scaling potential and supported as lighthouse concepts.
