We are involved in many high-quality projects around the world.
We focus on forest and land use projects including forest protection, reforestation of degraded forest areas, sustainable agriculture combined with forest protection and conservation of savannah landscapes, renewable energy projects, projects to avoid methane emissions and innovative mobility concepts.
All projects are developed to meet the needs of local communities and are implemented in collaboration with local partners and communities. All projects share the common goal of reducing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, thereby contributing to global climate protection.
We take part in projects certified according to recognised international standards – in particular Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Gold Standard.

Our Due Diligence Process
Quality assurance is at the heart of everything we do. Through our rigorous due diligence process, early-stage investments and project management, we are able to mitigate risks to local communities and the environment. This serves as a mechanism to ensure ongoing compliance with established safeguards and project plans throughout the implementation period.
Our quality requirements go beyond the methodological and safeguard requirements of the project standards. During our due diligence process, we draw from the knowledge from a diverse set of in-house as well as international and local experts. Among others, we assess legal, political, KYC, environmental, social, reputational as well as risk factors. We conduct desk reviews followed by obligatory on-the ground field studies to get a holistic and in-depth overview of the projects.
For project developments, we undertake on-going and independent monitoring and evaluation activities during the whole lifecycle of a project, including regular field visits to the project areas to ensure ongoing compliance with our quality requirements.
Our initial due diligence process takes between 3 to 6 months. The duration depends on the project type, the availability of documents, the maturity of the project concept, the level of engagement required from Volkswagen ClimatePartner as well as the need to consult with external experts.
We are commited to a diverse portfolio of climate projects that have many positive impacts on communities and development. These can be measured against the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
